Dr Adam Hill is a specialist anaesthetist (FANZCA) practising across major public and private hospitals in Sydney and regional New South Wales. He provides anaesthesia for complex spinal and neurosurgery, high-risk obstetric cases, trauma, and emergency surgery, and is one of the highest-volume obstetric anaesthetists on Sydney's North Shore.
Dr Hill completed his medical degree (MBBS) and Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Melbourne, graduating with distinction. He gained early clinical experience at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before undertaking anaesthesia and intensive care training at Orange Health Service in regional NSW. His Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) included secondments to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, Nepean Hospital, and The Children's Hospital at Westmead, as well as a rotation through intensive care.
In 2014, Dr Hill completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound through the University of Melbourne, adding point-of-care ultrasound to his procedural skill set. That same year, he worked as a retrieval specialist with CareFlight, providing pre-hospital and inter-hospital retrieval anaesthesia across New South Wales.
Dr Hill holds current appointments as a Visiting Medical Officer at Westmead Hospital and maintains admitting rights at North Shore Private Hospital, the Mater Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital, Lakeview Private Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital, and Macquarie University Hospital, among others. His clinical work spans neurosurgery, complex spinal reconstruction, obstetric anaesthesia, and emergency surgery.
He is a qualified instrument-rated pilot who flies his own Cirrus SR22 aircraft to deliver specialist anaesthetic services to regional New South Wales. He regularly flies surgical teams to Armidale, the highest city in Australia, to run fortnightly operating lists that would otherwise require patients to travel to Sydney. During the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires, he coordinated a group of volunteer pilots and personally flew doctors into Mallacoota when the town was cut off by road.
Dr Hill served on the New South Wales Committee of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists from 2016 to 2021, contributing to professional advocacy and policy at the state level. He has presented on topics including anaphylaxis management, massive haemorrhage protocols, chronic pain syndromes, and airway management at regional and national meetings.
Few medical procedures carry as much baggage into the delivery suite as the epidural. Expectant parents arrive with fragments of advice gathered from friends, forums, and antenatal classes, much of it outdated, some of it wrong.
